That’s how I see it, simply put. >One my desk at work I have long kept a picture of James Dean.  This is to >remind me that where he was The Rebel Without A Cause, I am The Rebel Without >a Clue.  I am diagnosed paranoid.

Could’ve fooled me.  Had no idea. My admiration for you went up a notch. >Y’all know about ratgirl, but do you know what a *real* trouble maker is? >How many remember Ilya?

The name is of course familiar but didn’t know why he was despised. So that’s what it was. GreyAdagio (p/e) — For more information about this service, send e-mail to:

Hey pit.  I was just kind of passing through ASDR today because my news server hasn’t had any new posts to ASD all day today. Good luck with the new group formation.  Seems to me that both ASD and ASDR have more than enough "critical mass" to support formation of another active group without "going under" themselves.   But there are some things about your statement above that really catch my eye.  Speaking deliberately in very general abstract terms, it seems to me that the only way one can have two groups be "exactly the same except for one thing", is if everyone sees both groups from the exact same perspective.  But that is not physically possible.  Thus even tho you may only see one thing different between the two groups, other people may see things differently. Why try to convince people that this new group will be exactly like the old group except for one thing??  Why not create a new moderated group because you WANT it to be different in MANY ways to many different people, rather than wanting it to be exactly the same except for one thing??  That seems to me more consistent with the reality of perspectives on groups and things.  Well, it’s more consistent with my perspective of groups and things anyway. I mean, who knows, and who can predict what will happen, who will go where, etcetera.  Who could have predicted that alt.suicide.holiday would one day become the more heavily trafficed suicide newsgroup, leaving alt.suicide in the dust??  Maybe everyone from ASD and ASDR will migrate to ASDRM.  Maybe nobody will.  If ASDRM is formed, it seems likely that ASD, ASDR, and ASDR will all live on and continue to evolve their own cultures. If the ONLY thing that was different about a moderated and unmoderated newgroup was that the a moderated newsgroup has the "ability to banish obvious trouble makers", then I don’t suppose there would really be much discussion would there??  It’s not having the ability that makes the groups so different, it is the excercising of that ability that makes them different.  :-) Best of luck on it.  The proposal seems right up your alley.  I am sure it would keep you busy for a long time to come.  :-) Sincerely Stewart — The Metaphor Man  *and*  The Great Defender of the Self (remove the SPAMBLOCK) Please send me an e-mail copy of your posted response.
