I hope what you’ll lose someday is the sense of things not going right all the time, of being constantly pushed and pulled by those around you, through no fault of your own. I hope what you’ll find some day is a sense of occasional balance, a type of acceptance that things sometimes seem to take forever to get better, of at least trusting that the landscape which looks the same might in fact be becoming a little less bleaker. Sometimes changes happen by chance, sometimes because we make the effort to heal or toughen ourselves up so that we’re not as vulnerable to every rock we end up stepping on. A lot of times chance and intent seem to go hand in hand miraculously, and one realizes that something changed, possibly at least a little for the better, though we’re almost afraid to believe it, negatively thinking any forward movement is only temporary. Actually, it is temporary since a slide backwards will happen. It’s almost inevitable. But the sum is that, overall, one has advanced a little, even by a quarter step. That’s the hope.
