  • Got a warning from my isp

    Question:

Apparently I’ve had instances where I’ve been online for over 10hrs straight, so my isp sent me a letter "advising" me that although I’m in the flat-rate program and don’t get charged by the hour, 10hrs a session might be a tad "much." Besides, flat-rate does not mean "unlimited time,"  so they say. Hmmph! Well, in a way it’s good I got that letter. 10hrs spent on ng’s in one session is a bit much if you think about it. And I really shouldn’t hog the resources. Don’t Bogart that modem, my friend…… I am starting on the aikido discipline which will substantially cut into my time away from work, and besides, my asd addiction is fast abating. So it might be a good time to at least start thinking about becoming a bit more selective in the use of on-line hours. I won’t tell if you won’t tell. There has to be a universal puckster at work somewhere. I’m thinking of actually limiting online-time and maybe even watch a little CNN or the Comedy Channel but then my TV died.  What gives? So now I miss my telly which I sorely neglected for 6 months or so. There’s actually dust all over it and cobwebs around it, I kid thee not. No one told me "use it or lose it" applies to TV. It’s only about 5 yrs old. And the funny thing is, a 7 inch TV from my college days is still alive and kicking. Hey, they made TV’s to run on testosterone-filled leaded gas back in those days. Someone hold this guy down while I insert my latest phone bill where the sun don’t shine. . . <fume> Our ISPs may only charge $15 – 20/month with unlimited access (although some put bandwidth restrictions on websites and others have such crappy newsfeeds they’re a waste of time) BUT we pay per second for phone calls. Just the phone access alone costs some $100/month No wonder the internet is the preserve of the rich and idle here (except for those who work in the field). ISDN? T1? Hi Grey,           I’d say maybe you should take a break sign off every two hours or so for half an hour then you wouldn’t be on for 10 hours straight.           But it is probably a good Idea to cut down a little bit.  Can’t imagine how you could be on for 10 hours anyway,  and not send me at least an itsy betsy e-mail. hmpf indeed. I have AOL and use WizOn. It bypasses the tacky AOL "You have been idle" buttons and I don’t Ever sign off it seems. I dim the screen and go to bed most times!  I never have received any notices and if I do, well, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, bye, AOL.  Netcom was GOOD about letting you stay on for days on end, never Unlimited Time and THEN giving us 10 minute idle buttons ALL day long, PLUS a 45 minute warning that we would be disconnected in 10 minutes ifwe didn’t click OK.  Sigh. WizOn saved me so far!!!  Anybody who has aol should use it, I guarantee it works. Till Steve’s bunch finds a way to over ride it!!!! <cringe" x-no-archive-yes
