Question:
That was good, Ron. I couldn’t have written it better myself. I personally can think of several reasons you didn’t directly spam. The first and most obvious is that it is against the policy of this group and we would report your to your ISP. The other reason is totally a projection on my part who’s scenario goes like this: If I wanted to sell something I would certainly not obviously alienate at least 95% of a group of people who respond very negatively to sales in this format. Now I am assuming you are as least as bright as I am and I certainly wouldn’t come in , guns blazing, and tout a product line. I would first read this group and see that selling is a bad no/no. My plan would then need a component that would keep me cool with my ISP and keep me cool with the 15% of the members of the group who might just be interested in the "what I used to make me better" part of my story. My personal plan would be to just lay it out there and tell people "I don’t care where you buy it, just buy it." Now your story may be absolutely true, your recovery might be absolutely bonafide, and you may be just a kind soul trying to help. However, I doubt that if I contact your wife and want to distribute products or buy products that I will be turned down. In finishing this, the step I would take that you did not, would be to first introduce myself as a newbie, then respond to other issues that come up in the group, and then when I had developed trust I’d move in for the kill (Don’t worry, guys, I haven’t been hanging around all of these years giving away supplements, chinese herbs, etc. just to move in for the kill now…!). Now for a general question: Why is it that evey salesperson or zealot who comes along finally needs to tell us that we are close-minded, mean-spirited, and filled with self-pitty because we smell a sale afoot. Last and certainly not least, if you thought rosie’s response was a crucification, I hope and pray you develope a thicker skin and as for your assumtion (which far outweighs any assuption about your motives that this group has made) that Rosie needs to enjoy life more I find that just laughable. Rosie is a hoot and enjoyed evey minute of her response to you. Oh and one more thing, it doesn’t matter if we think the products helped you, it only matters if you sell them No one is saying you are selling products that do not work, we’re saying IT IS AGAINST THE POLICY OF THIS GROUP TO SELL THINGS HERE. If you believe in your products, give them away. I do. Melinda (who is hoping you have a terrific day and that your wife does well this week with her product line and that you help many people with OA with these wonderful products and that you will come back and give them away here bacause that is all you can do without violating newsgroup policy.)

Hiya, Steve, And congrats, belated, on finishing your coursework. Kudos to you! Ok…what this stuff is, from the site. I picked the Bone and Joint Formula as apropos to us gimps: Active Ingredients: Vitamin C, Vitamin D-3, calcium ( aspartate and phosphate), magnesium (citrate), glucosamine sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, MCHC, boron (citrate). Some other stuffs in there such as: manganese, horsetail, and something called MaxCell…but these 3 are not listed as active ingredients. MCHC is a dibasic calcium phosphate: 3ca3(PO)4Ca(OH)2. It stands for microcrystalline hydroxyapatite…not proprietary, ‘cuz I found it as a stand alone pill at Clarion Pharmaceutical….just happened to be the first on my search list.. I’m not allowed on the pricing page because I gotta get an Associate’s Number to see what this costs. Gee…GS/C is news? There it is…it’s whut’s for sale. What’s the big deal? >The company name is Oasis Wellness and the website is www.oasisnetwork.com >Check out the products and their research protocols.
So I did. His Bone and joint compound is low dose glucosamine/chondroitin with some other stuff thrown in. Each tablet contains allegedly 125 mg of glucosamine and 75 mg of chondroitin. They state that the recommended dietary supplement dose is two to four tablets per day. They also have low amounts of miscellaneous other stuff such as 42.5 mg of calcium in each tablet, 50 U vitamin D3, vitamin C 50 mg per tablet, some miscellaneous other minerals, their special ingredient which is MaxCell, an aloe derivative, horsetai other ingredients including silica!. God knows why you would want all this stuff together at these doses. To get the amount of glucosamine that is being studied for preventing cartilege loss, you would need to take 12 tablets per day. That would also give you 600 IU of vitamin D3 which if you take any additional D could make you potentially vitamin D toxic. It also would not give you enough calcium – 12 tablets would only give 570 mg so you would be potentially calcium deficient – RDA is 1000. And if you then drank milk with D3, you would run the risk of becoming D toxic. Similarly there is not enough chondroitin either as the studied dosage is 1200 mg and 4 tablets would provide only 300 mg per day. So you would need 16 tablets to get the doses of chondroitin sulfate that are currently being studied and that many of us recommend. But 16 tablets would definitely push you toward vitamin D toxicity with 800 IU of D3 per day. Now this is assuming that there is some quality control and the tablets contain what they say they do. As many of you know, there is great variability among supplements. Dr Theo’s Web site has good data on which supplements actually contain the amount of glucosamine and chondroitin they claim. Maybe Dr Theo ought to look at OasisWellness. I think I will cc this post to him. Finally, you can’t tell from the Website what the cost is. To order you need something called an AssociateID Number. But I bet this stuff ain’t cheap. There are better and more reputable sources of glucosamine and chondroitin out there. And better ways to get calcium and D. And who needs horsetail and silica? Ron, I support your conviction all the way. I am committed to complementary medicine and think my so far success without DMARD’S or NSAID’s is certainly attributable to herbs, thymus, and indeed aloe among many others. I am not against your product or denying your experience. I am against is your process of name calling and I would like you to address the issue here and acknowledge that we do not allow sales of anything on this particular newsgroup. Why is it when spammers (and I didn’t call you that before until I read your response to Gord in another thread which makes it spam now) get called on their process they all start throwing personal slurs. Why don’t you just tell us what it is? It’s the very secrecy about it that makes people suspicious. Generally, if someone is just wanting to offer up that which has helped them they’ll come right out and say what it is. Saying "email me for details" is a common sales tactic on the net. Why not just say what helped you and leave it at that?

Steve: Actually, I thought that naming something like that would be offensive to the group as be solicitous. I have no problem naming what helped me and letting anyone check it out for themselves. I guess I just feel dubious about people who can talk about big drugs like Vioxx, Celebrex etc, but get offended when someone brings up a natural product that did the trick. If this settles this whole thing, that’s fine with me. All I ever wanted was to share my experience and tell folks what worked for me. And you’re not a very good speller…so, what’s your point? I have never solicited anyone and don’t appreciate your intimation. So why is it that I’ve received several direct e-mails telling me that they support my conviction? I really don’t know anyone here, but based upon your intolerance, I can see where the idea of conspiracies come from. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear you guys work for the big drug companies. I get total relief from my OA, avoid my next hip replacement, etc, try to share something (without spamming or soliciting or trying to personally profit from it) and you guys try to get me for "fleecing" you. You obviously don’t know what it’s like to go through the pain, misery and depression associated with OA. Or, if you’ve experienced it, you’d know that what I’m trying to do is just share my good experience. I’ve said it over and over, but no one seems to listen: Don’t buy anything from me…go to the company website direct…check out the research, the product and buy it there, or don’t buy it anywhere. I really don’t understand why you continue to carry on like you do. No wonder the big drug cos can keep us so drugged! Ron Pagano

Ron dearest, Your not very good at this but as you say we are your first. With practice you will fleece someone eventually. You’re really no better at listening and being open-minded than Rosie was…you’re just more long-winded and sarcastic. To be honest with you, I don’t need to stick around to receive anyone’s trust…that’s for people who have problems with trust themselves. I’m not saying that there aren’t people out there that have nothing on their minds but making a buck (I’ve been suckered in several times trying to find "the cure"), but at the same time, ask questions, check me out, tell me you don’t want to know about what I have to say…but don’t attack my motives just because you assume that my intentions are bad. This is the first newsgroup I’ve ever contacted and to be honest with you, I’m not impressed. You talk about garnering trust by giving away products…that’s wonderful and you’re probably a very nice person. But I already said in my previous post that I don’t care if someone buys these products from my wife or goes directly to the company website. I can’t afford to give product away for free…my wife and I have put that down as a goal (and we are paying for three friends of ours who can’t afford product themselves) If you can, kudos to you, but don’t think my intentions are any less noble. My intent was to let fellow OA sufferers know about something that really worked for me. If this is how I’m perceived (as a money-grubbing sales zealot) so be it. If that’s what it takes for people to find out about these products, I’m willing to be called that and worse, because I know what having OA is all about. I wish someone had told me about these products a long time ago. Keep up your good work and know that I will keep up mine. By the way, your "From" name (QuanYin9) isn’t meant to be an ad is it? Also, what’s scary to me is that you could create the scenario you created…that takes someone who has given it plenty of thought. Hmmmmmmm! Regards, Ron

Rosemarie: You’re right, your voice IS "loud and clear." The unfortunate thing is that you’re so caught up in your own misery and self-pity that you have no idea what you’re talking about. You’re close-minded, mean-spirited, clearly without any degree of understanding or caring and intent upon putting down anyone who wants to share honest information in a way that utilizes integrity and honesty. If I wanted to SPAM, why didn’t I just name the company and give you the website? I’m sure 1/2 dozen or more would have checked it out. But that’s not how I did it, right? I explained my position, knowing full well that I would open myself up to ignorant people. If you were truly concerned, you would check out what I say, investigate it, then expose me for the liar or truthteller that I am. No, you just want to crucify before trial and keep yourself in the spotlight. I hope you enjoy life a little more than that Rosemarie.
