Question:
Like most other sufferers I have a real problem with sleep. When in a manic phase I can’t sleep (and have no desire to). When in a depressive phase I want to sleep (and not wake up) but I can’t get a decent nights quality sleep. I have tried everything from the legal, i.e. tamazipam to the illegal, i.e. smoking "browns" (heroin). The only thing that has worked for me is Nitrazipam (Mogadon). This drug is wonderful – take 3 and get six hours solid sleep, take 4 and get 8 hours. Most of the time it shuts my brain down and stops the wild thoughts and nightmares. Give it a try, it might just work for you too.
Response:
Dear Big J, Hi again. This sounds very dangerous to me! Have you thought that maybe it’s the Heroin that is causing your sleep depravation? I hear that it’s a highly addictive drug, and it would seem to me that if it’s like nicotine, I have withdrawals, and it’s hard for me to sleep, sometimes, when I chew too much of the gum. I think you should seek professional help about this. Your health is really at risk when you don’t get enough sleep, and especially when you are using heroin. Are you taking the psycho tropic med.’s that are for your bipolar, as well? Please consult someone, Big J, for your own safety. Absolutely. I’ve been so tired that by 11am I’ve had to lie down before I fell down. Literally. I’ve even had to go up the stairs on all fours. I’ve nearly fallen down the stairs because I was so tired that my co-ordination was shot. This went on for months until I fixed it by taking sublingual B12 every day. Takes a while to build up though. (It has to be sublingual because CD sufferers often have a malabsorption problem in the part of the small bowel that deals with B12). HTH.

I’ve had this happen several times for different reasons. The first time it was a potassium shortage caused my a medication. The last time was, as described to me by my doctor, a "medical depression" brought on bt prednisone. It took me over a year to recover. I suppose there are alot of reasons you might be feeling fatigue, CBC should tell you more. I’d be interested in knowing how it all panned out. Dee

i had a 15 hour sleep the other day and felt great, although i overslept and missed lectures so it wasnt all good! Robert
Hi Carole, I’m having the same kind of sleep problems as you! I only sleep for about 1 to 1 and 1/2 hrs then am up for an hour or two. I’m only averaging about 3 to 4 hrs sleep a night. I too am blaming menopause as it only got this bad after I decided to quit taking a hormone last April. How I continue to go, go, go all day is a mystery, lol. Hugs, Linda
