    Question:

DHEA – The Anti-Aging Miracle What is DHEA? DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a naturally occurring androgen (a hormone that controls the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics) produced by the adrenal glands.  At the age of 21, we produce abundant levels of DHEA. By the time we reach age 40, our DHEA production is about half of what it was when we were 21. Elderly people sometimes have virtually no DHEA production. Lower-than-normal DHEA blood levels have been noted in aging adults and those suffering from diseases such as Breast Cancer, Alzheimer’s and AIDS. Researchers contend that DHEA is the most significant endocrine bio-marker known, and further postulate that all of its effects may be explained by its action as a precursor hormone which provides a host of steroid progeny with which to maintain our youthful vigor. Maintaining proper DHEA levels contributes to energy, vitality and the natural support of most endocrinological functions. A direct correlation can be drawn between the increased occurrence of many aging-related diseases and the corresponding drop in DHEA levels. Researchers have labeled DHEA the mother hormone because it serves as the critical building block from which the body produces other hormones. Estrogen, testosterone, progesterone, cortisone and 15 other hormones are responsible for bodily functions such as fat and mineral metabolism, stress control, immune response, and sexual characteristic maintenance. The body produces DHEA and converts it on demand to these essential hormones. Recent findings also show that each of our cells have DHEA receptors, which indicates that DHEA has its own distinct effects as well. The apparent lack of any direct hormone action for DHEA has prompted the suggestion that it may serve the role of a "buffering hormone" which would alter the state-dependency of other hormones. Although the specific mechanisms of action for DHEA are only partially understood, supplemental DHEA has been shown to have anti-aging, anti-obesity and anti-cancer influences.  In addition, it is known to stabilize nerve-cell growth and is being tested in Alzheimer’s patients. Dr. Bob Arnot of CBS News called DHEA "the fountain of youth in a bottle." At a recent conference held in New York City by the International Academy of Science, researchers presented evidence that DHEA helps strengthen bones, muscles and the immune system, and offers hope in the treatment of lupus, diabetes and cancer.  There have been over 2,500 published papers documenting DHEA’s multiple benefits; a recent paper studied the "quality of life" enhancing effect of this natural hormone: "DHEA will improve the quality of life over a longer period and will postpone some of the unpleasant effects of aging, such as fatigue and muscle weakness."  This report also stated that those patients receiving DHEA supplements had more energy, increased libido, slept better and were better equipped to handle stress compared to the placebo group not receiving the DHEA.   Some of the reported benefits of DHEA: Immune Enhancement Anti-Diabetic Actions Anti-Cancer Effect Anti-Obesity Effects Anti-Atherosclerotic Effects Anti-Depressant (unipolar depression) Increased Libido Lowers Blood Pressure Reduces Blood Cholesterol Levels Life Extension (animal studies) Cognitive Enhancement (including potential therapy for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases). Why is DHEA available without a prescription? In Europe, synthetic DHEA is available.   It is used primarily for the treatment of menopause. In the United States, DHEA must first be approved as a drug by the FDA before it can be marketed for medical purposes. Unfortunately, this is an adversarial process (the drug companies advocating for the drug and the FDA demanding proof of efficacy and safety) which takes up to 100 million dollars and a decade to accomplish. Without a patent to restrict competition, prices cannot be raised high enough to recover the investment in the approval process. DHEA is an unpatentable substance. Who should take DHEA?? If one is under the age of 25, DHEA supplementation is likely to be unnecessary. Our bodies appear to be programmed to reduce the natural production of DHEA sometime between the ages of 20 and 25. From that point on, our bodies degenerate and we begin the process of aging. In our early 30’s, our bodies can produce approximately 30 mg. per day of DHEA. By the time we reach our 60’s, levels of DHEA are barely detectable, under 5 mg per day. The mainstream medical establishment usually takes years to endorse natural nutrition as a preventative to disease, but now even medical doctors are demonstrating more and more confidence about the importance of DHEA. In his newsletter Health & Healing, widely quoted medical doctor and editor Dr. Julian Whitaker says, "the number of areas in which DHEA is helpful is almost alarming because it covers such a broad range of diseases. When blood levels of DHEA are increased to the level you had at a younger age, many diseases just melt away. The body seems fully capable of using supplemental DHEA as if it were produced in the body."   Serious research at major institutions has revealed that increasing levels of DHEA in our bodies may be a key to vitality, disease resistance, weight control and aging retardation. Men should have their prostate checked (PSA should be at normal levels) before taking DHEA. What is Colloidal DHEA? DHEA is difficult to obtain in a form that our bodies can use. Unlike vitamins and minerals, you cannot obtain DHEA from everyday foods because it is simply not there.  The only way to obtain DHEA in a natural food form is from the Dioscorea yam.  Over 50 years ago, American scientists discovered that a rare Mexican plant called Dioscorea contains the basic DHEA compound, which our bodies can use to manufacture natural DHEA. This rare tuber must be gathered in the wild because science has not yet found a way to successfully cultivate it. Dioscorea has been known for some 60 years but only since the recent discovery of the importance of DHEA has its significance been recognized.   Thousands of people are now supplementing with Dioscorea (also known as the Mexican wild yam). DHEA (Dioscorea) is produced in pill or capsule form by a variety of manufacturers.  However, the problem to date has been that the effectiveness of the DHEA was greatly reduced due to breakdown in the digestive tract.   This obstacle has been overcome with colloidal DHEA. What are colloids? More does not necessarily mean more.  In fact, in this case, the opposite is true: less is more.  Colloids are comprised of particles that are extremely small and light.  These particles do not dissolve, but remain suspended in liquid.  They are particles of a size that can be absorbed easily through the walls of cells and blood vessels; they are highly bioavailable. Most pharmaceutical or over-the-counter medications are sold in a crystalline state.  The body can only use substances that are in colloidal form.  Before the medicine can be used by the body, it must be converted from a crystalline to a colloidal state. LiquidLightning Meta-D-10 InnerLight’s LiquidLightning DHEA is the world’s only colloidal DHEA.   Colloidal DHEA is 5-20 has more bioavailability than capsules, pills, or tinctures. InnerLight International, a world leader in innovative colloidal products, has formulated a colloidal DHEA that assures optimal assimilation of this precious substance. LiquidLightning  Meta-D-10 (TM), colloidal DHEA, is a colloid of metabolized DHEA bound to the Co-Q-10 enzyme molecule.  Wild yam contains the precursor to DHEA.  A precursor is a biochemical substance, such as an intermediate compound in a chain of enzymatic reactions, that gives rise to a more stable or definitive product.  Most of the wild yam extracts sold on the market under the label "DHEA" contain only the precursor. Meta-D-10 stands for Metabolized DHEA with CO-Q-10.  InnerLight has metabolized the wild yam extract into the actual DHEA!  The DHEA molecules have been bonded with the enzyme Co-Q-10 to provide greater assimilation, absorption, and system acceptance. Where can I get InnerLight Meta-D-10? Meta-D-10 is available by mail order from The Vitality Institute. A one-ounce dropper bottle lasts 3-6 months with normal usage, 1-3 drops under the tongue three times a day.  The cost is $55.00, or approximately $15 per month.   Experience the quality of life enhancing effects of this natural hormone.   Send in the attached order form today, or call 303-765-5732 for more information. Doctors talk about this remarkable and exciting product: Dr. Elizabeth Barrett-Connor, University of  California: One of DHEA’s protective functions is to inhibit the enzyme glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which triggers the production of fatty acids and cholesterol and limits fat synthesis.  When DHEA levels fall, the enzyme system accelerates…this obviously could promote obesity and antherosclerosis.  (DHEA) acts as a thermostat that regulates the furnace and inhibits the conversion of carbohydrates to fat in the body. In a study of 242 men over the age of 50, it was found that those with a high level of DHEA were only half as likely to die of heart disease as those with relatively little of the hormone….On its own, that’s good news.  But coming as it does after reports that supplementing DHEA can prevent or ease a variety of other illnesses, it may be the strongest evidence yet that a single hormone plays a contrast role in maintaining human health. Dr. William Regelson: Dr. Regelson demonstrated that people with the HIV virus do not suffer from full-blown AIDS until their adrenal output of DHEA drops.  Blood samples from HIV positive patients were tested for levels of both DHEA and T-cells, the immune cells primarily … read more »

This is a very good idea. However, do you have any data how many did serum level of prasterone (DHEA) or prasterone sulfate (DHEA-S) increased after colloidal prasterone (DHEA)? After intravenously injection of 100-200 mg of prasterone sulfate (DHEA-S) to pregnant women, serum levels of prasterone (DHEA) and prasterone sulfate (DHEA-S) were only slightly increased. Because of high plasma levels of prasterone sulfate (DHEA-S), little changes in plasma levels occurred. You should tell us how your substance changes plasma level.
